"For I was hungry, and you gave me meat: I was thirsty, and you gave me drink: I was a stranger, and you took me in...I was in prison, and you came to me."
(Matthew 25:35-36)
The Haven of Rest Family Ministry emerged from a heart-wrenching journey filled with pain and necessity. In January 1996, Mrs. Eileen Mullins, the devoted wife of Southern Baptist Pastor Rev. Carl Mullins of more than three decades, faced the anguish of witnessing her 32-year-old son begin a lengthy twenty-year prison sentence. During their visits to their incarcerated son, Carl and Eileen witnessed the dire need for a ministry that could support and comfort families visiting their loved ones behind bars.
Eileen, with a heart full of hope and faith, fervently prayed for something positive to arise from this tragic situation. She clung to the promise of Romans 8:28, "For All things work together for good to them that love Christ, and are called according to His purpose." When news surfaced that a maximum-security prison would be constructed in her local area, she recognized that her prayers had been answered. Soon, she was presented with the opportunity to lead the efforts to establish a facility offering free accommodation to families visiting inmates.
Since then, countless prayers have been answered, and The Haven of Rest Family Ministry has become a beacon of support and solace for those facing similar challenges."
While The Haven continues to provide support for families of inmates, its mission has expanded to embrace a broader audience. Our doors are open for various occasions, including family gatherings, retreats, training events, and mission groups. Moreover, we extend a warm welcome to passersby, inviting them to relax on our porch and immerse themselves in the breathtaking natural surroundings that envelop us.
At The Haven, our commitment goes beyond serving those who visit. We reach out to collaborate with school resource centers to meet essential needs for students, offer daily living necessities to local senior centers, and provide hygiene products and non-slip socks to healthcare residents in our community.
The lifeline of our ministry primarily stems from individual donations. We are deeply grateful to the unwavering support of churches and dedicated groups who contribute to our cause.
Missionary groups also join hands with us to ensure the maintenance and upkeep of our facilities and share the love of God in our communities.
On a weekly basis, we rely on the invaluable assistance of volunteers who generously devote their time and effort. Their tasks range from cleaning, laundry, and property beautification.
You will see 3 large crosses. Our large gravel driveway is before those crosses.
